The spread of a mutated form of the coronavirus in southern England is causing uncertainty as to whether the vaccine will also help against the new variant. Meanwhile, researchers in South Africa are discovering another mutation in the Sars-CoV-2 virus. A new variant of the Sars-CoV-2 virus is circulating in South Africa. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a TV speech that the variant, initially called 501.V2, was discovered during genetic examinations of samples from different provinces. So far, it is unclear whether the appearance of the new variant will affect future vaccinations. However, the government’s previous strategies should not be changed.

Mutations in the spike protein New coronavirus variant causes concern

So far, 892,813 corona cases have been confirmed in South Africa, and more than 24,000 people have died in connection with Covid 19 disease. The government put a nationwide exit restriction in late March to contain the spread of the virus and tightened it again slightly after a temporary withdrawal at the start of the holiday season. The restrictions are having a devastating effect on the economy. British authorities recently informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of a new variant of the coronavirus found in the UK. According to the WHO, the already known variants of the virus have hardly or not at all behaved differently from the virus that was first identified in terms of infection routes or severity of the disease.
