US Post slouches in the election There are inconsistencies – in favor of Trump

Corona Tot

Donald Trump is convinced: The Democrats are cheating in the presidential election. But an alleged receipt turns out to be a typo. At the same time, the US Post has to explain itself in court: It may have messed up the ballots of thousands of postal voters. For Donald Trump, the matter is clear: If he loses the US presidential election to his challenger Joe Biden, it will only be because the Democrats cheated. Since the vote on Tuesday, Twitter had to warn several posts by the US President that this or that message was “controversial” or “possibly misleading”. Because Trump publishes online one crude theory after another, completely uninhibited. “We are FAR ahead, but they are trying to STEAL the choice. We will not allow that,” he writes for example, or: “Last night I was in front, often clearly, in many decisive states, most of them led by Democrats Then one by one magically disappeared because surprise ballots were counted. VERY SUSPECTIVE. ”

The President substantiates his allegations with complaints. In Michigan and Pennsylvania he wants to suspend the further counting of the votes, in Wisconsin he demands a new count, in Georgia an assessment of the postal votes. Because in these four highly competitive states it was actually the case that Trump was in the beginning apparently unassailable in the lead before Biden caught up in big steps and even overtook Trump in three of the four states.

Trump’s tweets about the US election Completely uninhibited

The billionaire seemed to get proof of his thesis from the analysis website Decision Desk HQ, which provides data on the presidential vote for news sites and the public. “WHAT’S BEHIND IT?” Asked Trump on Twitter early Wednesday afternoon, German time, after Decision Desk HQ published new figures from Michigan, which obviously couldn’t be correct: 128,000 additional votes had been counted in the Shiawassee district. All went to Joe Biden. The explanation for this absolutely implausible counting result was not a conspiracy, as Trump suggested, but a typo. “We have corrected the incorrect data and replaced it with the correct numbers from the polling stations,” said Decision Desk HQ when asked by CNN. The machine of indignation could not be stopped by this: According to Twitter, the incorrect data was shared at least 14,000 times before the correction was made. As of now, it is a comprehensible, albeit annoying, error. But the US President does not seem to understand that, or he does not want to understand it. Neither does the US counting procedure: in many states, those votes are counted first that were personally cast at the polling station. Only then will it be the turn of the postal voters, of whom there were particularly many this year because of the coronavirus: 65.2 million Americans have made use of this option, many more Democratic voters than Republicans among them. Joe Biden and his supporters had repeatedly called on their voters to avoid long queues and large crowds in front of the polling stations in the pandemic.

So it should come as no surprise that at the beginning of the count, an above-average number of votes fell on Trump and the president was in the lead in many places before the lead increasingly melted in the face of many democratic postal votes. To simplify the process, the Democratic Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar asked the parliament in the embattled state of Pennsylvania months ago to adjust the electoral laws so that the postal votes could be counted earlier. The Republicans blocked this initiative. Probably knowing full well that Trump could plan to discredit the election result in this way.

Tense situation in US metropolis Reporter: Situation in Portland “coming to a head”

The real scandal is taking place elsewhere. Not at the polling stations, but at the US Postal Service. And his approach doesn’t seem to help Biden, but Trump. Because the billionaire has been trying to exploit the US post for his own purposes since the summer. Among other things, he wanted to refuse the notoriously underfunded and overburdened authority further funding. In a legal dispute with electoral and civil rights representatives that had been going on for weeks, Federal Judge Emmet Sullivan therefore ordered last week that the Post had to explain exactly why it was not possible to deliver all ballot papers on time. It was of no use. The Post was quoted in court again on election day. There, Kevin Bray, who is responsible for the 2020 election at the US Post, gave worrying insights into the work processes of the all-important institution: In several highly competitive states, fewer postal voting documents were processed on three consecutive days last week than on the previous day. On election day itself, almost 8,000 of the 115,630 ballot papers were left in distribution centers. For almost another 300,000 ballot papers, he was unable to provide evidence that they were actually delivered to the polling stations.

Biden confident “likely to have defeated Trump”

The judge in charge therefore ordered the post office on Tuesday to search twelve distribution centers that process letters for 15 states every day for the missing ballot papers so that they arrive on time. The reaction of the authority: They stood against the ground that the missing delivery receipt did not mean that the ballot papers had not arrived. Post representative Bray, however, promised to take all necessary measures to guarantee the delivery of all voting papers by the weekend.

Post chief by Trump’s grace

That can be decisive for the outcome of the election, because the chaos affects at least one state, Pennsylvania, which Trump has to win if he wants to have a chance at the White House. Postal ballot papers are counted there as long as they are postmarked on election day and arrive by November 6th. Presumably to defend his lead, Trump therefore demands that the count be stopped.

What happens in a stalemate? A draw could be enough for Trump

For other affected states, the promise of Post representative Bray would even come too late: The US Supreme Court ruled just last month that in Wisconsin only those votes may be counted that were received by November 3rd, all others forfeited . The Democrats can get over that from today’s perspective, Joe Biden has won the state even without a possibly missing postal voter. For the state in the Midwest, however, Trump demands that the votes be counted again. For Federal Judge Sullivan it was still a scandal, he threatened to summon the post office chief Louis DeJoy in court so that he could explain under oath why the ordered measures were not implemented. DeJoy is a loyal Republican businessman and has donated more than $ 1.5 million to Trump’s election campaigns. The President had only appointed him to this post in May. Probably not without ulterior motives.
