Setback for the pharmaceutical companies Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline in the development of their corona vaccine: According to the first study results, the vaccine only produced an inadequate immune response. It is now planned to start another study early next year, announced the two companies on December 11th. They hope to develop a more effective vaccine by the end of 2021. The phase 3 study, which is crucial for approval, should actually start this month. The European Commission had already secured up to 300 million doses of the vaccine in a purchase agreement in September. AstraZeneca now plans to work with Russia on vaccine development. The company is considering testing a combination of its Covid-19 vaccine with the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V” in clinical trials.
