The average age on the continent is just over 19 years. Africa has so far recorded around 1.49 million corona cases. The number of unreported cases is likely to be very high, but the coronavirus has hit the continent less severely than previously feared, with around 36,200 deaths to date. In addition to the young population, according to researchers, this could also be due to genetic factors, population mobility and people’s immune systems. These are different in Africa than in Europe or the USA because people are exposed to completely different microorganisms and parasites, said Yazdanbakhsh.
