The actor Ian McKellen speaks of a special day: The 81-year-old was vaccinated against the corona virus. He is “very happy” about it – and calls for people to follow his example. “Gandalf” actor Ian McKellen had himself vaccinated against the coronavirus and has been feeling “euphoric” ever since. “It’s painless and it’s practical,” said the 81-year-old British actor (“Lord of the Rings”), as the PA news agency reported. “I am very happy that I received the vaccination.” McKellen called for people to follow suit. “It has to be – not just for yourself, but for the people who are important to you. You do it for society,” he said.
“It’s a special day, I feel euphoric.”

Great Britain started mass vaccination just over a week ago. The funds from the Mainz-based pharmaceutical company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer are used for this purpose. The government announced on Wednesday that nearly 138,000 people across the country had been vaccinated so far. The government was satisfied with the start of mass vaccination. “This is just the beginning and we will continue to expand our vaccination program,” wrote Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Twitter. “Ultimately, we will help everyone get back to normal life.” A government spokesman said the deliveries were “a marathon, not a sprint”. The UK is one of the worst hit countries in Europe by the pandemic. Because of the easing over Christmas, the government expects a significant increase in new infections.
