Only Estonia in the green area – Almost all of Corona Europe is now a Covid-19 risk area

Infections are not only increasing rapidly in Germany. Almost all European countries are on the risk list of the federal government. The only exception: Estonia. The travel warning is intended to deter tourists and enable cancellations. A worldwide travel ban like in March is not planned. Due to the dramatic increase in the number of corona infections, the federal government has classified eight other European countries such as Croatia, Hungary and Bulgaria as risk areas from Sunday. Austria and Italy are almost completely placed on the risk list, as are regions in six other EU countries. This was announced by the Robert Koch Institute. Associated with this is a travel warning from the Foreign Office for tourist trips, which is now valid again for a large part of Europe: Of the 26 countries in the EU except Germany, 17 are fully affected and 8 are partially affected as of Sunday. Only one small country in Northern Europe is then still “risk-free”: Baltic Estonia with its 1.3 million inhabitants. Like Germany, the other EU countries are also bracing themselves against the second wave of the pandemic with increasing restrictions on public life.

In France, exit restrictions have been in effect from Friday until December 1, which go well beyond those in Germany. In the neighboring country you can still take to the streets if you want to work, do important shopping, see a doctor or get some fresh air – but you have to fill out a certificate. Sport is only allowed for one hour per day within a radius of one kilometer from the place of residence. The whole of mainland France has been a risk area for two weeks. The classification takes place when a country or region exceeds the limit of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days. A large part of Germany is already a risk area according to these criteria. The designation as a risk area and the automatically associated travel warning does not mean a travel ban, but should have the greatest possible deterrent effect on tourists. The good thing for vacationers: You can cancel trips that have already been booked if their destination is declared a risk area. The bad: Returnees from the risk areas currently have to be in quarantine for 14 days, but can be freed from it prematurely with a negative test. That should change at the end of the autumn vacation on November 8th: Then you can only be “freed” five days after your return.

In Austria only two small exceptions

Pandemic situation on October 30th Only 83 regions are not considered hotspots

In Austria, Carinthia has so far been the only federal state exempt from the German travel warning. That changes on the night of Sunday at midnight with the changes that have now been made to the risk list. However, there are still two exceptions for the Kleinwalsertal and the community of Jungholz with a total of over 5000 inhabitants. Both areas can only be reached by road from Germany and do not yet exceed the limit value for new infections. The two small communities are therefore also the last ski areas in other European countries for which no travel warning applies.
