Trump rejects virtual TV duel

The second TV duel between Donald Trump and Joe Biden could now burst: The US President said on Fox that he would not take part in a virtually organized debate. This is “not acceptable to us”.

In the struggle for the White House, the second TV duel between incumbent Donald Trump and his challenger Joe Biden will most likely fail. After the independent commission for television debates announced that the upcoming duel would take place virtually on October 15, Trump canceled his participation. The change to the virtual format was “unacceptable,” he told Fox. “I’m not going to waste my time on a virtual debate.” The reason for the rule change was health risks due to the corona pandemic. Moderator and guests, on the other hand, should meet in Miami, Florida, as planned. The audience should be able to ask questions to the two candidates. Trump and Biden, however, would have been in other places and connected online. The duel has recently been increasingly controversial because Trump is still recovering from Covid 19 disease and could still be contagious at the date. The Republican had rejected this and said he was looking forward to the duel. The Democrat Biden, on the other hand, had announced that the duel should not take place if Trump was still sick or infectious. The third and final TV duel before the election on November 3rd is planned for October 22nd.

Trump fell ill with Covid-19 as a result of a coronavirus infection and was treated for three days in a military hospital. He returned to the White House on Monday. He said now that he felt “perfect” again and could hardly wait to get fully back into the election campaign. He assumes that it is no longer contagious. The day before, his personal doctor had announced that the 74-year-old was now 24 hours without symptoms. Trump further said at Fox that he would soon hold large campaign events again. He would like to have an event on Thursday evening.
