The race for corona vaccination has been going on since the beginning of the pandemic. Russia was the first nation to approve a vaccine – but without waiting for the final test results. In spite of international criticism, however, vaccination should be carried out en masse from December. In the Russian capital Moscow, mass vaccinations against the corona virus are to begin in the next few months. This will begin between December and January, writes Mayor Sergej Sobyanin in his blog. The first major shipments of the first Russian vaccine would arrive next month. “This will be the final victory over the pandemic,” said Sobjanin.

The Russian drug called “Sputnik-V” was released in August. There was international criticism because the approval was given before the completion of important tests. Large-scale phase III studies are currently ongoing. A second vaccine developed in Russia has now been released. In the largest country in the world in terms of area, the number of new infections has been rising rapidly for weeks. According to official statistics, 15,982 cases were reported in one day on Monday – more than ever before. So there are more than 1.3 million registered infections. For comparison: According to the Robert Koch Institute, more than 366,000 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the Corona crisis. In Russia, most of the diseases are registered in Moscow. According to official figures, more than 24,000 people died with the virus across the country and more than a million recovered. In order to curb the number of further infections, high school students in Moscow have to study at home again from this Monday on. Some of the employees in companies also have to switch to the home office. The Moscow mayor wrote that curfews and closings of shops like in the spring are not planned for the time being. “The optimal strategy is to find a middle ground (…).”
