Looking for an ISS leak for a long time – Space travelers discover air hole in tea bags

Trier

The aging international space station (ISS) repeatedly demands inventiveness from space travelers when faced with technical problems. A flying teabag is said to have solved the riddle of a leak that has been sought for weeks – the next breakdown is already causing excitement. Space travelers from the International Space Station (ISS) tracked down a possible air leak with the help of a tea bag. Cosmonaut Anatoly Iwanischin now said the state agency Tass said that it had flown in weightlessness in the direction of the leak. “We have several photos and videos of the direction of travel of the teabag.”

After weeks of quarantine, the manned rocket flies to the ISS in record time

He reckons with “actually having found the probable leak”. It should first be sealed with an adhesive tape. The space travelers have been concerned with the leak in the station about 400 kilometers above the earth for weeks. They had to spend a weekend in the Russian segment in August because they were looking for the hole in another part of the station. According to earlier information from the Russian space agency Roscosmos, the leak is “extremely insignificant” and harmless to astronauts and cosmonauts. There are currently six astronauts in the ISS. The crew only received reinforcements on Wednesday after a Soyuz capsule with three space travelers docked at the ISS after a flight in record time.

“Modules worn out in the Russian segment”

According to Roskosmos, the electron-WM oxygen system then failed in the evening at 10:31 pm CEST. A spokesman for Roskosmos confirmed, however, that there is no danger for the crew, as the oxygen system in the US segment of the ISS continues to function normally. Russian aerospace veteran Gennady Padalka told the Ria Novosti news agency that the station’s Russian equipment had long exceeded its shelf life. “All the modules in the Russian segment are worn out,” said the cosmonaut, who holds the record for most days spent in space. The equipment was actually only designed for a service life of 15 years.
