Italy’s hotspot Aosta Valley is gearing up for Covid-19 mass test

Franziskus Pope

The Aosta Valley wants to start a corona mass test as the second region in Italy. The small Alpine region is planning a series check-up for around 84,000 people or around two thirds of the population for one of the coming weekends, as the Ansa news agency reported on Tuesday. The province of Bolzano-South Tyrol had recently checked a large part of the population with rapid tests. In this way, the authorities want to find infected people who have no idea that they are infected. They often pass the virus on to many others unnoticed. Around 125,000 people live in the Aosta Valley, which borders France and Switzerland. The area is a red zone with particularly strict restrictions due to high corona numbers. The exact date of the multi-day, voluntary campaign has not yet been determined.
