The number of new infections with the coronavirus in Israel exceeded the 1000 mark for the first time in more than four weeks. As the Ministry of Health announced, 1069 new cases were registered within 24 hours. More new infections in one day were last reported on October 21 with 1172. The number of tests carried out in the Mediterranean country was, however, very high at almost 60,000; the rate of positive tests was 1.8 percent, still at the level of the previous days. In the nine-million-inhabitant country, the pandemic was comparatively mild in spring, also due to strict government measures. However, after controversial easing, the numbers increased massively in the summer. The government imposed a second nationwide lockdown in mid-September. From mid-October the government began to implement gradual easing.
