Deported? Parents of 545 migrant children in USA cannot be found

In 2018, the Trump administration’s rabid actions on the border with Mexico caused worldwide outrage: Parents who immigrated illegally were separated from their children. After violent protests at home and abroad, the US government ended this practice again after six weeks. But the consequences are apparently still severe today: the parents of 545 migrant children who were separated from their families cannot be found. According to its own statements, the US civil rights organization American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) informed the competent court. The organization denounced the “cruel practice” of the Trump administration and called for clarification. According to a court file published by CNN, two thirds of the parents who could not be found were likely to have been deported. The television station NBC, however, reported that the missing parents had been separated from their children and deported since 2017 in a pilot project by the US government.
