According to the company, the potential corona vaccine currently being developed by the Tübingen-based pharmaceutical company Curevac can be stored for months at normal refrigerator temperature. The active ingredient remains stable at a temperature of five degrees for at least three months, Curevac reported on Thursday, citing its own test series. In addition, it can be used for up to 24 hours at room temperature. The company said it was “confident” that, if successful, its candidate could be distributed and administered as part of the usual “standard vaccine storage at refrigerator temperature”. That would significantly reduce the logistical effort of future vaccination campaigns. Some of the potential vaccines currently being developed against the coronavirus – such as those from Biontec – have to be stored at low temperatures of minus 70 degrees.
