Creating a family tree – assistance needed

Hello all,

As a birthday/Christmas gift I am wanting to create a mini family tree showing the military lineage in our family for my brother and father who have both served.

I want it to contain the line of direct descendants containing our surname, beginning with my 2x great-grandfather who served in the Civil War, down through his son (WWI), then his son (WWII), then his son (Vietnam) ending with my brother (Iraq).

What I’m needing to know is what information should (or would be nice to) be included in the final display. I don’t have a set size in mind currently, but I am aiming for no larger than poster size – 22in x 28in (or thereabouts).

I’m thinking: dates served, unit, which war (if any), rank, tag number (am I allowed to display that?)

I am unsure which order to display the information, and what else would be nice to be included. I have a lot of information I can use, I just don’t want to overwhelm the piece. It’s information my brother doesn’t have, and in some cases my father doesn’t even have.

I appreciate any guidance you can offer.
