Customers and residents in the Castle Pines North Metro District have been directed to boil their water because of potential contamination in the system.

The “boil advisory” is prompted by mechanical and pressure problems in the system, according to a CPNMD news release. The The Water Quality Control Division (WQCD) of the Colorado
Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) directed the advisory as a health and safety precaution.

On Tuesday the district’s chlorine injector went down and on Wednesday the district “lost complete pressure” on almost half of its distribution system, the release said. The remaining half of the system is at low pressure.

“The loss of our chlorine injector and loss of pressure in the distribution system may allow disease-causing organisms to enter the water system,” according to the release.

As of Thursday afternoon, no contamination had been detected. Until corrected, the system could be plagued by unhealthy organisms to include bacteria, viruses and parasites, which could trigger nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and headaches. Anyone experiencing persistent symptoms should seek medical care.

“We sincerely apologize to our customers for the substantial inconvenience and thank them
for their patience,” the release said.
