A clinical study on the Covid-19 vaccine by Astrazeneca and the University of Oxford has confirmed the safety of the vaccine and provided new information on its effectiveness. The British pharmaceutical company said that halving the dose for the first of two vaccinations would be more effective. The data gives confidence to seek emergency approval of the vaccine in the UK and elsewhere. The health authorities would then have to decide which dosage should be allowed. Astrazeneca and Oxford University had already reported on the clinical study, which had shown an effectiveness of 62 to 90 percent. A subgroup of patients who received only half the dose of the first vaccination had shown its high effectiveness.
