Argentina mourns the death of the next football legend – today

Argentina’s former national coach Alejandro Sabella is dead. He died at the age of 66, according to the Argentine Football Association. According to media reports, the former midfielder had been treated in a clinic for heart, kidney and respiratory diseases for almost two weeks. Sabella had led the team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil to the final, where they failed 1-0 against Germany. “Alejandro was a great person and an exceptional professional who shaped my career and from whom I learned a lot,” wrote star striker Lionel Messi on Instagram. Sabella played for Sheffield United and Leeds, then later for Estudiantes de La Plata in Argentina and Gremio Porto Alegre in Brazil. He later returned to Estudiantes as a coach and won the Copa Libertadores with the team in 2009 before taking over the national team in 2011.
