Class 5A

No. 9 Grandview (2-2) vs. Cherokee Trail (2-2)

When/where: 7 p.m. Friday at Legacy Stadium

Last meeting: Cherokee Trail 26, vs. Grandview 7, on Oct. 11, 2019

With two weeks to play, this Centennial League matchup stands as a defacto elimination game for both teams’ hopes of reaching the eight-team 5A playoff bracket. After starting the season 0-2, the Cougars have ripped off two straight wins, scoring 35 points apiece in victories over Smoky Hill and Rocky Mountain. Grandview running back Moosah Alsaffar is coming off a huge night (282 yards, two touchdowns) in a 49-21 win over Smoky Hill.

4A No. 3 Pine Creek (2-0) vs. 5A No. 7 Legend (4-0)

When/where: 1 p.m. Saturday at EchoPark Stadium

Last meeting: N/A

After a tighter-than-usual opening game (17-7 over Chaparral), Pine Creek’s offense exploded for 59 points and 592 yards in a blowout win over Doherty last week. Now comes one of the stingiest defenses in Class 5A — a Legend squad that has given up just one touchdown through four weeks, including a 31-7 win over Regis Jesuit. Senior defensive back Jaxon Muma already has four interceptions this fall, with the Titans defense forcing 15 turnovers overall.

Arapahoe (2-2) vs. No. 1 Cherry Creek (4-0)

When/where: 7 p.m. Friday at Stutler Bowl

Last meeting: Cherry Creek 24, at Arapahoe 7, on Oct. 10, 2019

The consensus top-ranked Bruins are still waiting for their first big challenge of 2020, with their 35-14 win over Smoky Hill in Week 1 still their closest game of the fall. Enter the Warriors, who gave No. 5 Eaglecrest all it could handle in a 23-13 loss last week. Can they contain Creek’s explosive passing attack? Nobody has yet, with quarterback Julian Hammond III at 882 yards and 15 TDs for the season, and receiver Chase Penry riding a five-game TD streak dating back to last year’s 5A title game.

Class 4A

No. 6 Broomfield (4-0) vs. No. 9 Windsor (4-0)

When/where: 7 p.m. Thursday at Windsor

Last meeting: Broomfield 20, vs. Windsor 16, on Oct. 11, 2019

No team has played the Eagles closer during their current 16-game regular-season win streak than Windsor, which fell to the Eagles by just four points a year ago. Unbeaten through four weeks, the Wizards have leaned on a lights-out defense led by senior Conner Waite (8.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks) and strong rushing attack featuring junior Dax Polka (389 yards/10 TDs) and sophomore Jaden Thomas (366/2). The Eagles, who have a pair of single-digit wins this fall, are in for another test.

No. 10 Montrose (3-1) vs. No. 4 Ponderosa (4-0)

When/where: 6 p.m. Friday at EchoPark Stadium

Last meeting: Ponderosa 7, at Montrose 0, on Nov. 1, 2019

Ponderosa faces a potential trap game ahead of its Week 6 showdown with top-ranked Palmer Ridge, with Montrose coming to the Front Range. The Indians had a halftime lead on those very same Bears a week ago. Now, after having their hands full with Palmer Ridge’s Luke McAllister, they get a date with another electric quarterback in Ponderosa’s Jack Hanenburg. The dual-threat signal caller has 861 yards passing and 195 yards rushing through four weeks.

No. 5 Fountain-Fort Carson (4-0) vs. Rampart (3-1)

When/where: 6 p.m. Thursday at Garry Berry Stadium

Last meeting: Fountain-Fort Carson 45, at Rampart 23, on Oct. 13, 2011

Unranked entering the season, few teams have been as dominant as the Trojans in their drop down to 4A. Senior running back Q Jones is just two yards short of 1,000 through four weeks, including 294 in last week’s 35-21 win over Pueblo West. Meanwhile, the defense has 26 tackles for loss and eight turnovers. Rampart should offer plenty of resistance, with the Rams’ lone loss of the season a 32-31 overtime heartbreaker at the hands of Vista Ridge.

Class 3A

No. 6 Holy Family (4-0) vs. No. 2 Lutheran (4-0)

When/where: 7 p.m. Friday at Lutheran

Last meeting: N/A

A rare meeting between these two private school powers should produce the 3A Colorado League champion and all but guarantee a spot in the 3A playoff bracket. Lutheran has yet to be held under 49 points this fall with a pair of running backs averaging 100-plus yards per game in junior Dorian Pacheco and sophomore Ryan Kenny. On the opposite sideline, senior Trevin Johnson has 645 yards and nine touchdowns for the Tigers, who are averaging 45.8 points per game themselves.

No. 5 Pueblo South (2-0) vs. No. 10 Cañon City (3-0)

When/where: 7 p.m. Friday at Cañon City

Last meeting: Pueblo South 45, vs. Cañon City 33, on Oct. 11, 2013

In this crazy coronavirus year, Cañon City will play its second game in five days when the Tigers face off against Pueblo South on Friday night. The Tigers cruised at Pueblo Central, 42-7, on Monday, but step up in class against the fifth-ranked Colts. All-state running back George Longoria is putting up another spectacular season with 408 yards and five touchdowns for the Colts, who missed the first two weeks of the season due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
