Sev­er­al res­i­dents of two nurs­ing homes in Berlin com­plain of symp­toms of the lung dis­ease Covid-19. In one of the facil­i­ties, 21 peo­ple test­ed pos­i­tive for the coro­n­avirus. In Switzer­land, sev­er­al peo­ple die in old people’s homes after coro­na out­breaks. In a nurs­ing home in Berlin-Schöneberg, 15 res­i­dents and six employ­ees were infect­ed with the coro­na virus. The oper­a­tor of the facil­i­ty ini­ti­at­ed appro­pri­ate pro­tec­tive mea­sures in con­sul­ta­tion with the health depart­ment — such as the quar­an­tine of those who test­ed pos­i­tive. Accord­ing to the fire depart­ment, sev­er­al sick seniors are said to have com­plained of res­pi­ra­to­ry prob­lems in the morn­ing. Some of them had been tak­en to hos­pi­tal, a spokesman for the Sen­ate Depart­ment for Health said on Fri­day. Because some employ­ees are said to be in quar­an­tine at home, a trans­fer of the home res­i­dents is cur­rent­ly being exam­ined to ensure their care. The nurs­ing home con­cerned did not want to com­ment on request. Sev­er­al peo­ple were also exam­ined in a nurs­ing home in the Gesund­brun­nen dis­trict for sus­pect­ed Covid-19 and tak­en to hos­pi­tal because of severe symptoms.

The Berlin fire brigade wrote on Twit­ter on Fri­day after­noon that a total of sev­en peo­ple from two nurs­ing homes with acute res­pi­ra­to­ry dis­eases had been brought to clin­ics. Since the begin­ning of the coro­na pan­dem­ic, there have been numer­ous Covid-19 out­breaks in nurs­ing homes and deaths among res­i­dents nationwide.
