Vladimir Putin is one of the few important heads of state and government who has not yet officially recognized Biden’s election victory. As “Bloomberg” reports, the Kremlin chief reaffirmed this today in a speech on state television. He will only recognize Biden when the results have been confirmed “in a legitimate and legal manner” or Biden’s victory has been “recognized by the opposing party” – which, as is well known, has not yet happened. He added, somewhat sarcastically, that relations between Moscow and Washington would not be able to damage this delay because “there is nothing that can be destroyed”. Relations are “already ruined”.

Biden’s future Chief of Staff Ron Klain revealed another interesting piece of information on ABC News: The President-elect will announce the first changes in his future cabinet on Tuesday, he said. When asked which department and which person it is about, Klain didn’t look at the cards. The US media are of course already speculating diligently, also based on the few statements that Biden has made on the subject. Regarding the appointment of finance minister, he said: “It will be someone who will be accepted by all parts of the democratic party, whether progressive or moderate.” And it is precisely this balancing act that Biden has to manage with all positions: Not only the Republicans, but also the Democrats have had turbulent years behind them. They are torn between very left politicians like Bernie Sanders or the young shooting star Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and the party establishment that Joe Biden himself represents. The decision on Tuesday should give a first hint of where the journey is going in the next four years.
