Connery later celebrated success with films such as “The Untouchables” – for which he received the supporting role Oscar -, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, “The Name of the Rose” or “The Rock – The Rock of Decision”. In addition to action films, the actor repeatedly turned to more serious roles, for example in “The Bridge of Arnhem” or “The Russia House”. Connery was born in Edinburgh on August 25, 1930. At 16 he joined the Royal Navy. After that he worked in numerous odd jobs and celebrated success as a bodybuilder. He first appeared in front of the camera as a secret agent in “James Bond – 007 is hunting Dr. No” in 1962 – this was followed almost every year by other films in the series that quickly became global blockbusters.

After George Lazenby took over the role in 1969, Connery returned as Bond in 1971 for “Diamond Fever”. In 1983 he finally slipped into his tuxedo again for

In 2000 he was raised to the nobility by the British Queen Elizabeth II. Since 1975 Connery was married to the French painter Micheline Roquebrune. His first marriage to the Australian actress Diane Cilento (1933-2011) was his son Jason. Although Connery mostly lived in Spain or the Bahamas, he remained closely connected to his Scottish homeland and vehemently advocated the independence of Scotland.
