In view of the dramatic increase in corona infections in the Spanish capital, Madrid, the regional government has “urgently” requested soldiers as well as additional police officers and doctors from outside. The military is needed for logistical tasks, the police officers should help enforce restrictions on freedom of movement. And the doctors are needed to treat the sick, reported the newspaper “El País”, citing the regional government. With almost 700,000 infected people and more than 31,000 corona deaths, Spain is the country in Western Europe hardest hit by the pandemic. A third of all second wave infections are currently in Madrid.
