According to a study by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Britain would have to vaccinate two million people a week to prevent a third wave of the coronavirus outbreak. “The strictest intervention scenario with the toughest lockdown in England and schools closed in January and two million vaccinations per week is the only scenario that lowers the maximum load on the intensive care units below the level of the first wave,” the study says. Without extensive vaccination campaigns, cases, hospitalizations, ICU patients and deaths in 2021 could exceed those in 2020.
